The customs, migratory and economic authorities of Guatemala and El Salvador The operations of the PFI Anguiatú will enable June 18, which represents an advance in the regional economic integration process.
This is the first PFI between the two countries, which maintain a close commercial relationship in the Central American region. This infrastructure will reduce waiting times for the transfer of goods, products, supplies and raw materials.
In addition, it constitutes the natural step for foreign trade operations (exports and imports) of the economic agents of El Salvador, who use the services of Empornac in Izabal, exit to the Atlantic.
The function of the PFI Anguiatú will be to facilitate operations in the northern corridor of El Salvador exports. In the enclosure will work in a personal customs of the Superintendence of Tax Administration (SAT) and the General Directorate of Customs of El Salvador.
Modern Customs
The PFI facilities are located on the Salvadoran side; On the Guatemalan side, it corresponds to the Customs Hermitage. All operations related to merchandise, international transits and migratory processes and Customs will move from customs hermitage to the PFI Anguiatú.
The modernization of the customs service is part of the deep integration process in Central America. The authorities of both governments have agreed to advance in that direction, which will allow to expedite the processes of hospitalization of merchandise.
The second PFI is scheduled between Pedro de Alvarado, in Guatemala, and the hacking, in El Salvador. This step is key in the commercial land connection between Mexico and Central America, and records a greater demand for users. Both countries have defined a project that includes the modernization of that customs, the construction of a new customs and infrastructure enclosure.
What does it contain?
According to Salvadoran authorities, the new PFI Anguiatú required an investment of US $ 15 million. The works began in January 2020 and concluded in June 2021, in full pandemic.
The construction was carried out in the land of the existing facilities of the Salvadoran side, in order to integrate processes of facilitation and control of loads, under the responsibility of the competent authorities, and improve the working conditions of the personnel.
The enclosure has roads for transport, a main building and booths for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners (DGME) and the General Directorate of Customs, all institutions of El Salvador.
Customs Union
Guatemala and Honduras They already apply the PFI model since the beginning of the Customs Union, on June 26, 2017. This has allowed to expedite border crossings and has improved commercial competitiveness.
In the future, the customs union between the countries of the northern triangle is expected, with the aim of being recognized as a single territory for the exchange of goods, free circulation and a unique mechanism for the payment of local taxes.
In that context, trade would no longer be considered international, but local among the three countries.
