According to the Competition Lawthe President of the Republic, Bernardo Arévalo, must appoint, in the Council of Ministers, a titular director and a substitute among the payroll of six candidates for the Board of Directors of the Superintendence of Competition, issued on June 16 by the Ministry of Economy (Mineco).

Charges and deadlines
The Competition Law is contemplated in Decree 32-2024, which was approved of national urgency and charged validity on January 1, 2025.
The law creates two higher authorities: one is the directory of the Superintendence of Competition and the other is the Superintendent, explains the visible Guatemala organization.
The Board of Directors must be composed of three regular directors and their respective alternates, appointed by the President of the Republic in the Council of Ministers, the Congress of the Republic and the Monetary Board.
The period for the first directory will be variable, so that subsequently the renewal is gradual:
- Congress representatives will have a six -year period in office.
- Those who name the President of the Republic in the Council of Ministers will be four years old.
- For those designated by the Monetary Board, it will be two years.
- From the second board, everyone will be appointed for six years.
The Board of Directors is responsible for the election of the first Superintendent, as well as the elaboration of the Regulation of the Law.
