The “chicken drug” represents a problem increasing since its appearance in 2022. It is a substance that arises from the poultry excrement mixture with other elements. Its use has been detected in prisons, due to its low cost, but worries that it can be extended to sectors of vulnerable population.
Studies on the consumption of this type of narcotic began in 2022, when the first cases in Guatemala prisons were detected. In the last three years, its use has increased among the population deprived of liberty.
In addition, it has been established that Guatemala is the main producer of this drug, followed by El Salvador, Honduras and some sectors of Mexico. Although the studies are recent, relevant data on the mixture of chicken manure or manure with precursors such as marijuana, cocaine and Crac have highlighted.
The large amount of nitrogen and ammonia that contains chick can cause irreversible brain damage when consumed by humans. In addition, manure contains parasites that, when inhaled, can cause damage to vital organs such as lungs, stomach and brain.
