First Competition Directory must create regulations and choose Superintendent

The first duo of directors to form this directory was appointed by the Monetary Board (JM) on Thursday, June 19, composed of Édgar Guzmán as titular director and Alfredo Skinner-Klee Sol as alternate director.

The designation of Representatives by the Congress of the Republicwhich must be carried out by the Plenary, and of the Executive, through the Council of Ministers, which must be carried out in the following days based on the list of finalist candidates.

Of the six professionals who must integrate the collegiate body, two have already been designated and sworn by the JM to hold the position of directors.

Both Guzmán and Skinner-Klee explained the phases that will be developed based on the mandate of the board.

Once the designation of the rest of the professionals is completed, the selection process of the new Superintendent must be initiated and the public call, which will include the requirements of the procedure.

Besides, The Regulations of the Competition Law to make it operational, as well as the internal regulations, which will define the functions of each of the competition intentions, units and other dependencies of the Superintendency.

“For us it is a priority to end the board, in order to designate a superintendent who will have the legal representation and administrative functions necessary for the Superintendency to work,” Guzman said.

He recalled that they were designated to cover a period of two years (24 months) and that “it is when all the scaffolding that allows the institution to achieve the purposes for which it was created: as a technical, economic research institution, which must ensure and defend free competition in the country,”

Skinner-Klee remarked that this first directory has a great task ahead: The responsibility of creating the technical, ethical and operational basis that will mark the path of this institution.

“The institutionality is very important, as well as the appointment of the Superintendent and the creation of the new regulations, which are the first steps to take,” he said.
