Neighbors of Zones 5 and 6 of Villa Nueva denounced that, on the night of Wednesday, July 2, they perceived a bad smell that caused them symptoms of poisoning.
As they reported, the smell was similar to that of burned car oil, which caused them headache, vomiting, eye irritation and throat discomfort.
For this fact, personnel of the Authority for Sustainable Management of the Amatitlán Lake Basin (AMSA), the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) took samples of the Villa Lobos River to determine if there was a spill of a toxic liquid.
In addition, they investigate whether a asphalt material producing factory, located near the Villa Lobos River, could be related to the incident.
