How to calculate bonus 14 in Guatemala? Techniques to obtain the amount from the calculator

In force since 1992, Bonus 14 is an annual bonus that corresponds to private and public sector workers that they maintain a labor dependence relationship with the company that hired them. It must be delivered between July 1 and 15.

According to the annual bonus law for private and public sector workers, this payment is part of labor benefits and must be granted in a single disbursement, whether or not they are affiliated with the IGSS, provided they have a employment contract that supports them.

The bonus does not apply to those who are hired by fees for professional services or to workers who receive daily salary and do not reach the monthly minimum wage. In these cases, the employer may decide whether or not to grant the bonus.

The law establishes that the complete benefit corresponds to those who have completed a year of uninterrupted work in the company. If the time worked is lower, the amount must be calculated proportionally.

The article of Free press “When is Bonus 14 in Guatemala and who have the right to receive it?” It details that workers in the agricultural sector or do not work continuously at the disposal of the company have the right to payment if they have completed at least 150 days of work or 150 tasks.

How to calculate bonus 14?

According to article 2 of the bonus law, it is calculated based on the ordinary salary or the average of the wages received between July 1 of the previous year and June 30 of the current year.

Those who have worked uninterruptedly in that period must receive an amount equal to their monthly salary. For those who have not completed that time, the calculation is proportional, following these steps:

  1. Determine the ordinary salary: The period worked must be established and all the perceived salaries. This can be done through the operation (salary × days worked).
  2. Calculate the proportional amount: The total sum is divided by 365 days a year.

Observation: This calculation is done without including monthly bonus; Only the base salary should be taken into account.

Example of calculation in a manual calculator

  1. Multiply the monthly salary for the days worked:
    Operation 1: Q3,723.05 × 179 days = Q666,417.95
  2. Divide the result by 365 days:
    Operation 2: Q666,417.95 / 365 = Q1,825.53
