The Colombia Police captured a man allegedly involved in the brutal attack against the presidential senator and candidate Miguel Uribe, which was suspected of hiring the minor he shot.

Elder José Arteaga Hernández, known with the alias of “El Costeño”, is indicated as one of the logistics brains and key piece to reach the intellectual authors of the attack perpetrated on June 7 against Uribe, who remains hospitalized in Bogotá.

“A criminal with more than 20 years of criminal experience, the one who participated directly, the one who materialized and organized before this criminal attack, the during and after,” police director, Carlos Fernando Triana Beltrán, said at a press conference in Bogotá.

The senator of the rightist Democratic Center, 39, received three shots, two of them in the head, during a political act in a park in the capital. After several surgeries, he has shown some improvement, but his state of health is still serious, according to his relatives.

The authorities have already captured five alleged involved, including the gunman, a 15 -year -old teenager who was arrested minutes after the attack and was shot by Miguel Uribe’s bodyguards.

“The Costaño”, with Interpol Red Circular, “would be in charge of carrying out the coordination of the criminal action, as well as the identification and delivery of the weapon to the adolescent who would have executed the attack,” said the police.

The detainee is investigated for the crimes of an attempt of aggravated homicide, manufacturing, traffic and possession of aggravated weapons, concert to aggravated crime and use of minors in criminal acts.

According to the police, “El Costeño” is the leader of a criminal gang in Bogotá “dedicated to multiple crimes”, but is still under investigation if he has links with more powerful armed groups.
