The Steg continues to disobey judicial orders that force him to resume his functions, that is, to present himself to public educational centers and teach children and adolescents.

However, the group of teachers that support the trade unionist Joviel Acevedo maintains a permanent assembly that, Until this Sunday, July 5, accumulates 49 continuous days.

Steg actions respond to a pressure measure so that government authorities, particularly from the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), access to sign a new collective pact.

This negotiation progresses in secret, because the administration of former president Alejandro Giammattei agreed to be confidential.

During these weeks of de facto measures, the 2025 school year has remained stagnant. Despite various legal actions, there is no defined date to be lifted.

Key moments

On May 19, the Steg Assembly decided to declare in permanent session. The measure continues and is about to turn two months.

These actions, backed by Teachers related to Joviel Acevedo have affected about 16% of public educational establishments, As reported by the MINEDUC.

On May 23, teachers settled in the Plaza de la Constitución and around the National Palace of Culture.

According to union leaders, they organized in three continuous days by municipality, then being relieved by other teachers.

The number of affected students, according to Mineduc data, was around 300 thousand.

June 4, The PGN began receiving notifications from different national courts.

The orders were clear: the union had to refrain from continuing the measures. However, despite the constant judicial notifications, they persist.

On June 25, in the middle of the protest, teachers received a first payment with salary increase, one of the benefits established in the current collective agreement.

On June 27, the PGN obtained a new notification derived from the amparos granted. In this, the Public Ministry (MP) was notified to investigate the union leaders to disobey compliance with provisional protection.

By June 30, the Mineduc had accumulated about seven thousand minutes against teachers. However, administrative actions have not managed to deactivate the camps either.

On Thursday, July 3, the Constitutional Court (CC) knew a new legal action presented by the PGN. It was an unconstitutionality that sought to suspend phrases contained in seven articles of the current collective pact.

The magistrates resolved not provisionally suspending these phrases, so the pact continues in force. It remains that the CC issues a final sentence, for which there is still no date.

Currently, the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) maintains in force a pending protection that seeks to lift confidentiality in the agreements of the collective pact.

The CC ordered the CSJ to know this amparo, promoted by lawyer Edgar Ortiz. However, several months have passed without any resolution.
