2025 calendar of torches, parades and other activities for the independence of Guatemala

In 2025, Guatemala will commemorate 204 years having initiated with the ideas of freedom and having signed the act of independence that separated it from Spain.

In addition to the emblematic parades and the different independence celebrations that are held in the country, the Government of Guatemala, through the permanent committee pro-fees of national independence, published the official calendar of activities with which the independence of the nation will be commemorated.

This calendar includes activities that will be carried out as of Monday, September 1 and will conclude with the traditional rapping of the flag and the closing ceremony in the central park.

The official activities of activities is presented below.

Monday, September 1

PRECAR OF NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE

In this activity, the preachers disseminate the activities scheduled by the permanent committee pro-fees of national independence, on the occasion of the 204th anniversary of independence, accompanied by the inguat ballet and school bands.

Hour: 8 hours

Place: Tour from the 17th street, ends in the Plaza de la Constitución, Zone 1.

Patrio fire ignition

At the end of the route, a civic act will be held in which the national fire is lit and floral offerings are offered by the Central America ambassadors and members of the Committee to the Próceres de la Independencia.

Hour: 10 hours

Place: Constitution Square, Zone 1.

Tuesday, September 2

Arrival of the national torch to the Plaza Obelisco

Arrival of the three torches from the north, south and west of the country that are directed to the Obelisco Square, where the national fire is located.

Hour: 15 hours

Wednesday September 3

Departure from the Central American torch for peace and freedom

Students out of the three routes from the Obelisco Square to Jalpatagua, Jutiapa. Students of the Oriente Route are incorporated.

Thursday, September 4

Delivery of the Central American Torch for Peace and Freedom to the Republic of El Salvador

Jutiapa students run the last 20 kilometers to deliver the torch at the El Jobo bridge to the representatives of El Salvador.

Saturday, September 7

Guatemalan song gala (XXXII Edition)

Gala concert in which Guatemalan singer -songwriters will participate in commemoration of the 204 years of independence of the country.

Sunday, September 7

Great Marimbas Assembly

Around 10 marimbas selected for their career and interpretive quality will participate in this assembly, an event in which the trajectory of three of the participants will also be recognized.

Tuesday, September 9

Distinguished Student Award

The Ministry of Education recognizes the academic excellence of children and young people from public institutes and private schools in different educational areas.

Wednesday, September 10

Conjurers of Bethlehem

Civic act in commemoration of the conjurers of Bethlehem, during which floral offerings are presented by the departmental governor of Guatemala and the director of the institute.

Place: Central Normal Institute for Señoritas Belén, 11 12-20 Avenue, Zone 1

Thursday, September 11

End of theatrical presentations of the Popular University

This event will recognize and reward national talent in the discipline of theater, gathering the selected finalists after a series of previous presentations that highlighted the best of the Guatemalan theater.

Sunday September 14

Torch ignition

Light of torches of public and private institutions, educational establishments and groups of neighbors from departments, municipalities, colonies, villages and neighborhoods.

Hour: 6 to 24 hours

Solemn Te deum

Mass sung, chaired by the Metropolitan Archbishop, in which God is appreciated and praised for the signed independence 204 years ago.

Place: Guatemala Metropolitan Cathedral

Raised by the National Flag, Reading of the Act of Independence and Presidential Message

Act chaired by the President of the Republic of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo, who directs a message to all Guatemalans for the commemoration of national independence. The National Flag of Guatemala in its Honorary Situation, and the governor of the Department reads the Independence Act.

Monday, September 15

Presidential Message on the occasion of the 204th Anniversary of National Independence

Act in which the President of the Republic of Guatemala, together with his government cabinet, directs a message to the general population and the countries of Central America, prior to the school civic parade.

Hour: 7.45 hours

Place: Frontispiece of the National Palace of Culture

Civic school parade

Parade of school, tattial and martial bands that starts in the Municipality of Guatemala. It travels the 7 avenue, passes in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral and continues towards the frontispiece of the National Palace of Culture. Then, advance along the 6 avenue until you reach the Jocotenango Park.

National Flag Arriada and closing Independence Activities 2025

Act chaired by President Bernardo Arévalo, who offers a closing message of the National Holidays, prior to the Arriada of the National Flag in his Honorary Situation.
