The Court of Criminal Judgment of greatest risk, Group C, issued sentences against 46 members of the Chapina Race Click, linked to the 18th neighborhood gang, for crimes committed between 2017 and 2018 in Chimaltenango, Guatemala and Sacatepéquez. The Prosecutor’s Office against the crime of extortion achieved penalties that, together, exceed one thousand years in prison, the Public Ministry (MP) reported on Thursday.
The criminal structure was accused of extorting by telephone threats to merchants, carriers and citizens, in a criminal operation that included illicit association, conspiracy for murder, trafficking in people and illegal trafficking of arms.
MP investigations revealed that the criminal network operated from prison and urban areas controlled by the gang. The structure used intimidation, death threats and armed violence to demand monthly payments to its victims.
The case represents one of the greatest judicial actions against neighborhood 18 in recent years.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, these sentences seek to dismantle active cells and send a clear message about the consequences of participating in organized criminal activities.
The highest penalties were imposed on the following convicted:
- Gustavo Adolfo Martínez Fuentesaka Wake: 178 years in prison and fine of Q300 thousand.
- Francisco Roynel Chajón Martínezaka Fernando: 171 years in prison.
- Pedro Luis Bernal Tunaka Liro Crazy: 97 years and 4 months in prison.
- Rolando Nahaman Carmonaaka Cat: 66 years and 8 months, and fine of Q300 thousand.
- Roberta Angélica Agustín Domínguez: 60 years in prison.
- Genry Geovany Itzol Cruzaka Crazy: 53 years and 10 months, with a fine of Q400 thousand.
- Josué Benjamín Lima Calancheaka Big Cola either Compote: 40 years.
- María Alicia Cárdenas Sequén: 39 years.
- Carlos Estuardo Álvarez Osorio: 37 years.
- Marina Alicia Osorio Rodríguez: 31 years.
- Josué Estuardo Cruz Jiménezaka The ram: 31 years.
- Mauricio Cemeño Solís: 31 years.
- Julio César Domínguez Chigüelaaka Slepyn: 30 years and 8 months, and a fine of Q300 thousand.
- Esvin Leonardo Jiménez de Pazaka EPI either Penguin: 24 years and 8 months.
- Marta Luisa Samol Tum: 21 years and 4 months, and a fine of Q400 thousand.
- Herber Eliseo Díaz Cantoralaka Skinny either Parka: 18 years and 8 months.
- Mariela Chavaj Hernándezaka The Kim: 14 years.
- JORGE ASENCIO JUÁREZ GONZÁLEZ: 12 years.
- Joshua Estuardo Jiménez Juárez: 12 years.
- María Cristina Cujcuj López: 12 years.
- Subject Maribel de León: 12 years.
- Sandra Viviana Galindo Ferrer: 12 years.
- Oscar David Quintana Raxtún: 8 years.
- Sergio Iván Patzán Batz: 6 years.
- Mario Enrique Chávez Aguirre: 6 years, with order of expulsion from the country After serving the sentence.
- Manuel de Jesús Cardona Gómez: 6 years.
In addition, another 20 syndicates accepted the charges under a special procedure and received reduced penalties, ranging from 4 to 14 years in jail.
Among them are:
- Dora Elizabeth Tacatic and Claudia Karina Cujcuj Lópezwith 12 years each.
- Claudia Karina Revolorio López: 14 years.
Others convicted with sentences between 4 and 8 years include Edwin Geovany with Ticún, María Victoria Santos Mazate, Kimberlly Yajaira Arias González, Luis Ángel Buch Tum, Pedro Eduardo García Ordóñezamong others.
