The official weigh-in of the MVPW-02 event took place this Thursday, April 16 in New York with the presence of Jake Paul, and left María “La Imparable” Micheo ready for her fight this Friday. The Guatemalan boxer registered 111.6 pounds, within the agreed limit of 112 pounds, thus completing a preparation process that involved one of the greatest physical challenges of her career: moving up two weight categories, gaining muscle mass and power without losing speed or technique.
The achievement was not minor considering that Micheo’s natural weight is 105 pounds. “For me it was a huge challenge to move up a category. It’s not just about gaining weight, it’s about increasing muscle mass and power. We worked a lot on strength, technique and nutrition with a high protein diet and very intense physical work during five weeks of camp,” explained the Guatemalan, who arrived at the weigh-in in optimal condition and with the confidence of having completed a high-level preparation with her coach Marisol.
For its part, Natalie Dove also passed the weigh-in without problems, registering the exact 112 pounds agreed upon for the eight-round bout. The American, young and undefeated with seven professional fights, did not hide her emotion at the magnitude of the moment. “This means everything to me, I have always dreamed of being on a big stage,” said Dove, who also recalled his career at the promoter. “Last year I was doing my first fight in MVP and this year I will open the main card with María”added the American fighter.
Promising night
With the weigh-in over, everything is ready for this Friday, April 17, Micheo and Dove will open the main billboard of MVPW-02 at the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. It will be the first fight on the main card of a stellar night in an event that will also feature the presence of figures such as Alycia Baumgardner and Shadasia Green in the main bouts.
For Micheo, this fight represents much more than a victory in the ring. The first professional boxer from Guatemala seeks to climb positions in the WBC ranking and get closer to a new opportunity for the world title, having already been the only Guatemalan to fight for an absolute title. The fight can be followed this Friday starting at 8:00 PM Guatemala time on ESPN and through the Most Valuable Promotions YouTube channel.
