Why Trump said he “has every right” to be against Pope Leo XIV’s stance on Iran

Before traveling to Las Vegas, President Donald Trump told reporters on April 16 that defended “their right” to disagree with the recent statements by Pope Leo XIV on Iran and nuclear weapons.

Besides, The president accused the pontiff of being in favor of Iran having nuclear weapons, after Leo XIV gave his position against the war between the US and the Middle Eastern country.

“I have no disagreement with the fact that the pope can say whatever he wants – and I want him to say what he wants – But I can disagree with him.“Trump told reporters.

“The Pope made a statement. He says that Iran may have a nuclear weapon. I say Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon“added the president.

Trump noted that the Pope “must understand the situation“What is happening now with Iran and you should be aware of that”the real world is a cruel world“.

“The pope has to understand it. Iran has killed more than 42 thousand people in recent months. “They were totally unarmed protesters,” Trump said.

Finally, Trump reiterated the sympathy he has with the brother of Pope Leo XIV, whom he considers a supporter of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.

“I’m sure the Pope is a great guy too. I haven’t met him, but I disagree with him“said the American president.

Trump’s statements come after Robert Prevost expressed his position against the war in Iran and in favor of a path of peace.

Trump has described the pontiff as someone “weak against crime“and a person”terrible on the subject of foreign policy“.
