Former Director of Roads is convicted of usurpation of powers in an electrical project

Jorge G., former general director of Roads, was convicted of the crime of usurpation of powers, the Public Ministry (MP) reported this Tuesday, April 21.

The investigating entity added that, through the special procedure for accepting charges, the former official was sentenced to two years in prison, a fine of Q25 thousand and reparation worthy of Q5 thousand.

In addition, the judge suspended his political rights for the duration of the prison sentence.

The Prosecutor’s Office demonstrated that, in his capacity as general director of Highways, Jorge G. authorized the construction of an electric energy transportation line, from kilometer 36.8 to 51 of the old highway between Palín and Escuintla.

According to the MP, said authorization had to be granted by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the only entity that, according to the specific law, can authorize the use of public domain assets in the construction of energy transmission lines.

The Administrative Crimes Prosecutor’s Office presented the evidence for the First Pluripersonal Criminal Peace Court to issue the conviction against Jorge G.
