Armed confrontation, derived from road intolerance due to congestion, leaves two dead and one captured in Zacapa, the National Civil Police (PNC) reported this Monday, April 27.
“Derived from intolerance over traffic issues, it was recorded at kilometer 175 of the route to the Atlantic, in Gualán, Zacapa,” added the PNC.
He stated that an argument between drivers turned into an exchange of gunfire that left a tragic outcome.
The PNC added that police from Police Station 24 captured Herber “N”, 54, who was driving a truck.
He assured that the detainee was transporting his 21-year-old daughter, who was seriously injured and later died in a healthcare center as a result of gunshot wounds.
A man, approximately 69 years old, who was traveling in another truck, died at the scene of the incident.
“Preliminary proceedings establish that the incident originated from a traffic jam that led to an argument and, after the road was not given over, the situation escalated when both drivers drew firearms and shot each other,” according to the police report.
The PNC added that agents seized four pistols, a carbine, eight magazines, 109 ammunition of different calibers and 20 shell casings, weapons with the corresponding documentation.
The captured man was taken under police custody to a care center, where he remains with injuries, according to the police report.
The PNC recalled that a similar case was recorded on Friday, April 24 in Santo Domingo Los Ocotes, San Antonio La Paz, El Progreso, where a person lost his life in circumstances linked to road intolerance, a fact evidenced by video surveillance cameras; The case remains under investigation.
The PNC called to avoid confrontations of this type and not to put one’s own life and that of others at risk due to situations that can be solved. “Carrying weapons legally is a responsibility that requires emotional maturity and self-control,” he stressed.
