The National Civil Police (PNC) published a statement this Tuesday, April 28, in which it established its position regarding the recent circulation of alarmist messages under the challenge called “Shooting tomorrow” in various educational centers in the country.
It explained that, through its intelligence units and the Cyber Crime Department, it has initiated the relevant investigations to identify those responsible for originating and disseminating these false alarms.
“We will not allow jokes in bad taste to put the emotional health of our students and the tranquility of Guatemalan families at risk,” the PNC warned.
He added: “We warn that these actions are not simple games; they constitute potential crime. These types of false alerts not only saturate emergency resources, but can be used as distractions or facilitators by organized crime.”
He stated that the people who participate in the creation of these messages directly contribute to the climate of insecurity and “will be treated as criminals.”
Legal consequences
The PNC affirmed that it will act firmly in response to the alerts issued.
“Those responsible for instilling public fear and panic will be brought to the appropriate courts under criminal charges,” he indicated.
He reminded parents and students that the implications include criminal sanctions for the crime of instilling public panic, as well as immediate expulsion from educational centers and civil liability for the parents or legal guardians of the minors involved.
The PNC urged school and college directors to activate their security protocols immediately in the event of any discovery.
In addition, he asked citizens to report anonymously to 110 and 1510 any information about the authors of these threats.
“There will be no impunity for charlatans who seek to destabilize citizen peace,” he remarked.
🚫 Not everything you see on social networks is to be repeated.
“Trends” and “challenges” circulate on the Internet that are not a game. Imitating or promoting them can create fear, disrupt classes, and get you into real trouble.
