Carlos Obeniel Morales Guerra, brother of the mayor of Dolores, Petén, agrees to be extradited to the United States.

Carlos Obeniel Morales Guerra accepted this Wednesday, April 29, to be extradited to the United States, where he is wanted for crimes related to drug trafficking.

The hearing was in the Third Criminal Sentencing Court. The accused is one of the three brothers of the mayor of Dolores, Petén, who were captured.

According to authorities, Morales Guerra is wanted in the United States for alleged drug trafficking, according to the case presented in the District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Just last February 20, the Public Ministry reported that Morales Guerra, also known as “C Morales,” was captured in Petén along with two other people.

On that occasion, the Prosecutor’s Office explained that the three were wanted by the United States for the alleged crimes of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute five kilograms or more of a mixture and substance that contained a detectable amount of cocaine, with the intention, knowledge and reasonable cause to believe that said substance would be illegally imported into that country.

“An investigation by law enforcement authorities identified a drug trafficking organization operating throughout South, Central and North America, which was responsible for transporting large quantities of cocaine to the United States,” the MP stated on the day of the arrests.

The MP added on that occasion that the authorities identified the detainees as members of the organization from approximately 2006 until at least May 2024.

“During that period, they were responsible for transporting, directing and managing a portion of the organization’s cocaine trafficking activities in Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico,” the MP stated on February 20.
