Xelajú MC and Marquense close the Clausura 2026 quarterfinals this Sunday at the Mario Camposeco Stadium in Quetzaltenango in the most open match of the second leg. Roberto Hernández’s Superchivos arrive with the series tied 1-1 after the tie in the first leg at the Marquesa de la Ensenada Stadium, where Widvin Tebalán opened the scoring for Xelajú but Diego Casas equalized for the Leones in the 59th minute.
The tiebreaker criteria favors the Superchivos for having finished leaders of the Clausura with 39 points, so a tie at Mario Camposeco would be enough to advance to the semifinals.
Marquense arrives at Mario Camposeco with the obligation to win to stay alive in the league, in what would be one of the biggest surprises of the quarterfinals if the Leones manage to eliminate the Clausura leader in their own stadium. Omar Arellano’s team has Diego Casas, the tournament’s second top scorer with 14 goals, as its main offensive card to surprise Quetzaltenango. Xelajú, for its part, will have to face the match with the absence of Antonio López due to expulsion in the first leg and with the additional concern of the injury of Kevin Ruiz, who also had to leave in the first half of the match against Marquense.
The Superchivos will seek to take advantage of the support of their fans at the Mario Camposeco to seal the classification and advance to the semifinals where they could face Comunicaciones or the team that advances from the other bracket.
