Espacio Revoltoso, by La Revuelta Arte, located in zone 1 of Guatemala, is dedicated to celebrating, promoting and sustaining art created by women.
Currently, Maru Archila is in his residence, who presents his project No place. “The street is the territory where Maru Archila learned to move—to defend his space in a line, to read a wall with his hands, to recognize what constitutes danger—. His instinct mode is sensation, not named emotion; what is palpated before being able to describe it: the vibration of a bridge when cars pass by, the rough texture of a surface that can still be transformed into something else,” is part of the way this project is communicated.
No place It is a game of meanings. In the language of corporality, it names a persistent sensation: that of not yet knowing where to stand or what one belongs to. The pieces rescue objects from public space: an unscrewed traffic sign, an orange net cut in half a block. “It is a gesture of care towards something that no one was attending to,” he says.
Archila is an artist and graphic design student. He works from public spaces through wallpapers, fanzines and installations. His practice uses graphics as a form of direct intervention on the street and addresses issues such as police violence and criminalization. His work explores the possibilities of graphics outside conventional formats. She was part of the collective Niñas Furia.
