Amílcar de León was linked to criminal proceedings this Friday, May 8, for conspiracy to commit the crime of terrorism, during a hearing held in the Second Pluripersonal Court of First Instance Criminal of Guatemala, judicial sources reported.
The resolution was issued by the second criminal judge, Maximino Morales, who also ordered that the accused remain in preventive detention while the judicial process against him continues.
The judge set the intermediate stage hearing for August 24, in which it will be determined whether the case should advance to trial.
Because the file remains under judicial confidentiality, the specific facts that the Public Ministry (MP) attributes to De León are not officially known. However, on the day of his capture, on April 23, it emerged that the investigations would be related to publications and messages spread on social networks.
According to information known at that time, De León is identified as the alleged coordinator of the account in X Arbencista Movement. Sources close to the case indicated that the investigations include alleged threats directed against several people, including Claudia Paredes, president of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ).
The capture was made in San Marcos, as a result of three raids carried out in Malacatán. The proceedings were coordinated by the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Impunity (FECI), with support from the security forces.
