Municipal teacher Betsy Lucía Sequen Herrera, 29, was shot this Saturday, May 23, by alleged hitmen who pretended to be bread deliverers in Santa Lucía Milpas Altas, Sacatepéquez.
The National Civil Police (PNC) reported that agents from Police Station 74 captured Emilio “N”, 25 years old, alias “Primo”, in zone 1 of that municipality and sent his 14-year-old stepson to a juvenile court, accused of participating in the attack.
According to the preliminary investigation, the suspects toured the streets of the municipality on a motorcycle while offering bread from house to house so as not to raise suspicions.
The authorities indicated that, upon arriving at the victim’s home, they knocked on the door and when the woman came out they shot her several times, and then escaped.
A basket of bread was left abandoned at the crime scene, which the alleged attackers used as a decoy.
The PNC added that the suspects were located approximately one kilometer from the scene of the attack, when they were trying to flee on an Italika motorcycle with M-133LKT plates.
During the operation, the agents confiscated two illegal pistols, one Bryco Arms brand and another Zigana, as well as two hoppers and 10 ammunition.
The Police detailed that alias “Primo” has a record of an attack in 2020.
The authorities do not rule out that those captured are linked to other armed attacks registered in Antigua Guatemala and Santa Lucía Milpas Altas.
In an obituary published on social networks, the Municipality of Santa Lucía Milpas Altas regretted the death of Sequen.
“With deep sadness, we join the pain of the family and friends for the sensitive death of Betzy Lucía Sequen Herrera (…) We express our most sincere condolences to her family, friends and educational community. Likewise, we inform the population that those responsible are already in the hands of the corresponding authorities,” says the message that accompanies the obituary.
According to the publication, Sequen was a teacher at the La Libertad village school.
