Municipal wrote a historic page this Saturday by winning its 33rd National League title. The Reds beat Xelajú MC 2-1 at the Mario Camposeco and closed the Clausura 2026 final with a resounding 6-2 aggregate to become the winningest club in Guatemalan soccer, surpassing the 32 Communications crowns.

The third time was the charm for the team led by Mario Acevedo. Municipal had lost the Clausura and Apertura 2025 finals against Antigua GFC, but this time it did not miss the opportunity to reach the historic mark on one of the most complicated fields in the country.

The title also confirmed the great season of the Scarlets, who finished as the most consistent team in the championship with 86 points in the accumulated table. In addition, Mario Acevedo became the first Nicaraguan coach to become champion with Municipal and joined the list of historical coaches of the club.

The history of the 33rd title began in 1942 with Manuel Felipe Carrera and was strengthened for decades with the contribution of Argentine technicians, responsible for 19 scarlet championships. Enzo Trossero leads that list with five crowns, followed by Horacio Cordero and Carrera himself with four titles each.
