On June 3, US immigration authorities carried out a massive raid on a South Carolina business that ended with nearly 50 people detained, accused of violating immigration laws.

According to Univisión, the immigration operation was called “Ghost Story”, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was in charge of the custody of the 48 detained employees.

In addition to the workers, the authorities detained two company managers Burnstein Von Seelen Precision Casting, located in Abbeville.

Univision cites the accusations made by the State Grand Jury, which accuses the two managers of ignoring the authenticity verification of workers’ identity documents before hiring them.

The managers would even have facilitated the use of false documentation within the company.

Regarding employees, Univisión affirms that they are accused of resorting to questionable methods to obtain false driver’s licenses and Social Security cards through “document sellers.”

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson warned about these arrests, stating that these types of crimes not only take jobs away from American citizens, but also puts national security at risk.

“If you are illegally assisting undocumented immigrants in South Carolina, you will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. If you are taking advantage of hard-working Americans, stealing their identity, and willfully ignoring your responsibilities as an employer to avoid the law, we will come after you“Univisión cited the prosecutor’s statements.
