Before him premiere of Supergirl, which will present a more chaotic, controversial and human superhero, Milly Alcock will be in charge of playing Kara Zor-El / Supergirl in this new cinematic universe. The actress talked about how her character is a departure from the classic Supergirl.
With a darker, emotional and chaotic style, this new proposal by Supergirl will arrive this June 25 on the big screen. The film will show how Kara’s past on the planet Krypton, where she lived until being sent to Earth, marked her personality.
Unlike her cousin Clark Kent/Superman, who was sent to Earth as a baby and raised by loving parents, Kara Zor-El witnessed the murder of her people during her first 14 years of life before being sent to the planet, part of the synopsis highlights.
The film promises a different vision of Supergirl. The synopsis presented by Cinépolis highlights: “She is much tougher and is not the Supergirl we are used to.” This version presents her as a disheveled, party-loving and chaotic young woman who still retains a hopeful vision, details screenwriter Ana Nogueira.
In an interview with Agencia EFE, the screenwriter highlighted that this version puts optimism into analysis, since it is easier to maintain it when things have gone well than when one has experienced a difficult past. From that perspective, the new Supergirl will explore her heroism amid an apparent lack of direction, mitigated only by the company of Krypto.
“The protagonist must almost involuntarily embark on an adventure to help an orphan girl in her revenge, while facing her own pessimism and an identity crisis that will force her to rethink her role as a heroine and her ability to do good,” highlights EFE.
The new version of Supergirl contrasts with the image of her cousin Clark Kent, whose new version stars David Corenswet. This bet, according to the screenwriter, seeks to show it as a symbol of hope that arises from the loss and grief that it carries over its dark past.
For this new version, the creators were inspired by the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowby Tom King, which presents the story of Kara Zor-El, who watched her entire people perish. That story fascinated Nogueira.

What most interested the screenwriter was the moral and personal conflict faced by this young woman, marked by a painful past and constantly compared to the idealized figure of her cousin Superman, a model that she feels is not enough and that could give a new tone to this heroine.
In her evolution, she will find a way to heal the wounds of the past and reinforce the heroism that she could not develop during her childhood.
“In this film, she can see herself as a hero to that girl in a way she hadn’t been able to before, and that helps her find herself,” highlights Nogueira.
