The former acting couple, who requested the divorce in 2016, has been involved in a complicated separation in court and this case over the sale of the Chateau has been going on for five years.
The subject of litigation is Jolie’s sale of her share of the vineyards surrounding the estate to the Stoli Group in 2021, which occurred when they were no longer a couple.
The Superior Court of California gave Pitt a victory by decreeing that his ex-wife’s buyers testify about how that sale occurred.
The actor always considered the acquisition illegal since, according to him, by selling her share the actress broke an agreement by which they agreed not to sell their shares without the other’s knowledge.
Pitt sued Jolie in this case for US$35 million in damages.
Throughout her legal battle, the actress has accused her ex-husband of trying to silence her and using the lawsuit to cover up mistakes she was guilty of during their marriage.
Pitt and Jolie coincided in the filming of the action film Mr. & Mrs. Smithwhich premiered in 2005, the same year Pitt split from Jennifer Aniston.
Their romance became known then, they married in 2014 and after a stormy relationship, a judge declared them officially single in 2019, although the divorce agreement was not closed until the end of 2024. Both share custody of their six children.
