The United States is already looking beyond the 2026 World Cup and begins to project itself as a possible host of a new edition of the tournament.

According to the BBC, Andrew Giuliani executive director of the working group of the White House for the World Cup, opened the door to an eventual candidacy to organize the 2038 Men’s World Cup.

At the moment The North American country shares the headquarters of the 2026 World Cup with Canada and Mexico, competition that marks the premiere of the 48-selection format. However, Fifa analyzes a new expansion to 64 teams starting in 2030, a scenario that, according to Giuliani, the United States is fully capable of facing.

“If the World Cup grows to 64 teams, the United States has the necessary infrastructure to respond,” stated the official, although he clarified that the priority is to successfully complete the organization of the current tournament before thinking about a future candidacy.

The 2038 edition will be the next to open an official bidding process, after The 2030 World Cup was assigned to Spain, Portugal and Morocco —with inaugural matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay for the competition’s centenary— and the 2034 match will be in the hands of Saudi Arabia.

As the 2026 tournament unfolds, the United States has also faced questions. Various human rights organizations issued warnings to fans, journalists and delegations due to the immigration policies promoted by President Donald Trump’s administration.

Likewise, the increase in travel costs and entry restrictions for members of Iran’s coaching staff, forced to move their base from Arizona to Tijuana, have generated criticism during the competition.

Despite this, Giuliani assured that the balance is positive and maintained that President Trump shares the vision that the United States can once again host the greatest soccer event.

He highlighted the already existing sports infrastructure, the country’s logistical capacity and the response of international fans, factors that, in his opinion, make the United States one of the natural candidates to host a World Cup again.
