Soccer has taken over the conversation on social networks in recent days, mainly between those who celebrate the victory of the different teams and those who predict the victory of their favorites. One of those cases was that of Liam Gallagher, who anticipated Mexico’s defeat against England, which motivated the response of Fher Olvera, vocalist of Maná.
Next Sunday, at 6 p.m., the Mexican team will face England in the round of 16 at the Mexico City Stadium, which has generated great expectations between both teams, which seek to advance to the quarterfinals.
While memes are becoming popular on social networks, such as the one that shows Queen Elizabeth facing Claudia Sheinbaum, a comment sparked a controversy in the world of music, after Liam Gallagher, a member of Oasis, pointed out that the Mexican team will be defeated by England.
It was on his X account where the singer and composer started the controversy, after a user asked him: “Liam, what do you think of England’s crushing defeat at the Azteca?”
The artist responded with a brief but forceful message: “I think we will beat Mexico 5-0”, which quickly generated controversy between his followers and Tricolor fans.
But it was the response of Fher Olvera, vocalist of the Spanish pop rock band Maná, that increased the controversy, as he published a video to respond to Liam Gallagher’s prognosis.
“The Oasis singer said that Mexico is going to lose against England 5-0. Let’s see, don’t stain, get your bearings, wow,” said the Maná member.
In his message he added: “5-0? Calm down! See you on Sunday to see how it goes,” he commented with a laugh, after questioning the forecast.

The public’s reaction was immediate. Some supported Fher Olvera, while others stressed that things should not be taken so literally. Users even shared memes in which both artists faced each other and continued creating publications about the exchange.

Finally, it will be until Sunday when it is decided which of the two teams will advance to the quarterfinals. A victory for Mexico would mean returning to being among the eight best teams in the world, something it has only achieved in the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, when it hosted, according to N+.
