Before becoming one of the founders of Free press, Don Salvador was already a master of sports reportinga genre of which he was a true pioneer in Guatemala, as he began to cultivate it proactively and devoutly since 1923. He always supported all expressions of sporting competition, although he preferred non-professional sport, which he considered authentic because it constituted an end in itself and not a means to achieve a way of life and other types of rewards.
In the 25 years preceding the founding of Free press, He was the creator of the sports sections of newspapers such as The Impartial, The Progressive Liberal, Excelsior, he Newspaper of Central America and La Nación; He was also the founder of the first radio sports news program, although his heart would always be in the written press, where he would often use the friendly pseudonym “Pom Boch.”
From the moment it was founded Free press takes the sports segment under its wing, giving it a sense of dynamism and freshness, either through eye-catching headlines and innovative approaches that would serve as a school for subsequent generations of sports journalists. Salvita was a true teacher for many of us, shared Carlos Larrañaga Gomar, who began editing this section with him.
He always generously provided his knowledge and experiences as head of the sports section, although he would later have to assume the role of Administrator, in which he organized various departments of the company according to a far-sighted vision that would facilitate the expansion of the medium.
