Ash moves due to collapse of volcanic material
According to the Insivumeh, the dispersion of ash is a consequence of the collapse of accumulated pyroclastic material in the crater and in the Seca ravine after the explosions recorded in recent weeks.

The institution explained that this phenomenon generates clouds of gas and ash moving towards the west and northwestso they could register ash falls in communities located on that flank, among them San Pedro Yepocapaas well as other sectors of Chimaltenango, Suchitepéquez and Sololáaccording to the dispersion map issued at 11.35 am.
The Insivumeh indicated that the gas and ash columns reach between 4,300 and 4,700 meters above sea level.

Insivumeh: it is not an increase in eruptive activity
The Insivumeh clarified that the current dispersion of ash does not correspond to an increase in eruptive activity of the volcano.
According to the institution, the phenomenon was foreseen in the Special Bulletin No. 25issued on June 2in which it was warned that explosions and the descent of material down different ravines could cause the collapse of pyroclastic deposits and the formation of clouds of gas and ash.
