Filming for the new Disney movie began on Monday, July 20, 2026. Tangledbased on the classic story Rapunzel, by the Brothers Grimm, but now in a version live-action which will have as settings the cathedral of Girona, Spain, and its historic center.
In recent days, some 500 people who make up the production have worked to shape and adapt the main filming sets.
Locations include the stairs and interior of the cathedral, Manaies street, Plaza dels Apòstols, Paseo Arqueològic, Pujada de Sant Domènec and the wall. Some scenes are also scheduled to be filmed in Besalú (Garrotxa), at the end of July.
The recordings will last just over two weeks, so the City Council reported that they will last until August 3 and warned of impacts on mobility and changes in waste collection.
In addition to the announced scenarios, Casa Sarraïnes and the Girona History Museum were enabled as logistics spaces.
Likewise, space was reserved for technical vehicles at different points in the historic center, on the Copa esplanade and in the parking lot on the Font de l’Abat (Abbot’s Fountain) path.
The authorities assured that residents in the affected areas will be able to access their homes normally, except during specific times when a scene is being filmed.
Meanwhile, the authorities have held several meetings with residents and enabled a specific section on the City Council website where all the provisions on mobility and parking are detailed.
The expectation for the new production of Tangled it grows more and more. Last April, the selection process for dancers and extras took place, during which long lines of applicants formed in Girona in search of a place.
