A couple reported missing since last Monday was found murdered this Tuesday, July 21, among sugarcane fields in San Andrés Villa Seca, Retalhuleu. Along with the bodies, their one-year-old and two-month-old daughter was found alive, who, preliminarily, would have remained during the night next to the bodies of her parents.

Departmental Municipal Firefighters from the Cuyotenango station, Suchitepéquez, reported that they went to the scene after receiving an alert about two people located among the sugarcane fields. When evaluating the victims, they found that they no longer had vital signs.

The deceased were identified as Nixon Giovanni Pérez Paz, approximately 43 years old, and Glendy Marisol González de la Cruz, approximately 25 years old, both residents of the Nueva Lolita community, San Andrés Villa Seca.

Municipal firefighter Selvin Cota indicated that relatives informed them that the couple had been missing since Monday and that their one-year-old and two-month-old daughter was with them.

“The relatives told us that the one-year-old and two-month-old baby was with the couple; they had been missing since yesterday,” he said.

According to relatives, the couple left their home on Monday morning bound for Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez, to carry out procedures. The last time they were seen alive was in Cuyotenango, when they were returning to their community along with the minor.

The bodies were located this Tuesday morning and, next to them, the one-year-old and two-month-old girl was found alive. According to preliminary information, the victims were probably murdered during the night of last Monday and the minor remained during those hours next to the bodies of her parents.

According to the rescue forces, the girl’s crying alerted neighbors and community members who were participating in the search. Upon approaching the place, they located the minor alive next to the bodies among the reed beds.

The National Civil Police preliminarily reported that the victims were gagged and tied at the feet and hands, and had wounds caused by firearms.

The Public Ministry and agents of the National Civil Police carried out the corresponding procedures at the scene and are keeping the investigation open to determine the motive for the incident and identify those responsible.
