Jorge Barahona Orellana is linked to trial for three crimes

Judge Abelina Cruz, of the High Risk Court D, decided to link Jorge Barahona Orellana to criminal proceedings for the crimes of murder, false testimony and obstruction of criminal action, in the case of the crime against Claudina Velásquez, which occurred in 2005.

In the resolution issued on July 22, the judge gave the Public Ministry a period of two months to expand the investigation and ordered the accused’s imprisonment.

Due to the judicial confidentiality of the process, it is unknown what Jorge Barahona Orellana’s actions could have been in the events indicated by the prosecution.

According to the investigation, Jorge Barahona Orellana is one of the seven accused in the reopened investigation for the murder of law student Claudina Velásquez Paiz, when she was 19 years old.

The suspect was arrested on July 9, 2026, almost 21 years after the murder of the young university student.

According to testimonies collected at the time and cited in international reports, the victim was described by her family as an active young woman, with a social life, who combined her studies with daily activities.

According to the investigation, on August 12, 2005, Claudina left her house heading to the university in the morning.

He then informed his family that he was at a party in the Panorama neighborhood, zone 8 of Mixco, and that he would return at midnight. The last communication with his relatives occurred around 11:45 p.m.
