Judge rejects challenges and the start of the trial against Carlos Ovidio Acevedo is suspended

The judge of the Ninth Criminal Sentencing Court rejected, in a hearing held this Thursday, July 23, the challenges raised against that jurisdictional body by the defense of Carlos Ovidio Acevedo and by Larkin Morales’ lawyer.

The judge indicated that the file will be transferred to the Second Chamber of the Court of Appeals, which must resolve the future of the process against Carlos Ovidio Acevedo, accused of having run over Larkin Morales on several occasions, who lost a leg due to the accident. The incident was recorded in September 2025 in zone 9 of the capital.

Now the start of the trial against Acevedo, accused of attempted murder, is suspended.

Larkin Morales’ lawyer presented the arguments for the challenge filed against the Ninth Sentencing Court. He indicated that different judges have resolved various judicial actions in the process against Carlos Ovidio Acevedo.

Just last July 2, Carlos Ovidio Acevedo benefited from alternative measures and was released from preventive detention where he remained for more than six months.

Among the measures granted are house arrest, the prohibition of leaving the country without judicial authorization and the obligation to submit to the care or supervision of a person who must ensure the presence of the defendant at the different hearings.
