Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz once again demonstrated this Thursday why he is one of the best climbers in the world by conquer the eighteenth stage of the Tour de France, after an exhibition in the demanding Orcières-Merlette high finish.

The EF Education-EasyPost runner starred in a memorable day by attacking forcefully in the last first-class mountain pass. His power and determination allowed him to break away from his breakaway companions and cross the finish line alone, achieving a highly prestigious victory in the French round.

Carapaz, who is also competing for the polka dot jersey that distinguishes the best climber, once again exhibited his talent in the mountains. He managed his efforts intelligently before launching the final attack in the final kilometers, leaving his rivals without a response and confirming his status as a specialist in the grand tours.

The Ecuadorian’s triumph represents another outstanding chapter in a career full of success. He is an Olympic champion Tokyo 2020 and winner of the 2019 Giro d’Italiaand continues to accumulate memorable performances in the main competitions of world cycling.

CARAPAZ, OLD KNOWN IN GUATEMALA

Richard Carapaz competed in the 2013 Vuelta a Guatemala as a member of the Ecuadorian RPM Team, when he was just beginning his career in international cycling. In that edition he was proclaimed champion of the U-23 category and left a sample of the talent that years later would take him to the world elite.

Thirteen years after that participation in Guatemala, Carapaz continues to write outstanding pages and demonstrate his quality against the best cyclists in the world.

With this victory in the French Alps, Richard Carapaz confirms that he continues to be one of the most combative and spectacular riders in the peloton. His victory in stage 18 of the Tour de France It will remain one of the best mountain exhibitions of this edition.
