A campaign promoted in Argentina on one platform digital to request a repeat of the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, after the defeat of the South American team, already exceeds 61,500 signatures.
The petition, started by fan Gisela Sánchez on the platform Change.org, questions the actions of the Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić and requests Fifa to review the decisions made during the match, played on July 19 in New York.
The promoter of the initiative affirms that there were referee decisions that influenced the development of the match. In addition, it denounces alleged irregularities, although it does not present verifiable evidence, and asks that the governing body of world football analyze what happened.
These requests have no regulatory validity nor can they bind the Fifa to modify the result of an official competition. A replay of a match can only occur in exceptional circumstances.s in the sporting regulations or by resolution of the competent bodies.
The Argentine initiative joins other similar protests that emerged during the World Cup 2026. In France, a digital campaign that exceeded 82,000 signatures also requested a repeat of the semifinal against Spain for a play prior to the penalty that opened the scoring, although it had no effect on the development of the tournament either.
On Sunday, after the victory of Spain 1-0 over Argentina in extra time, with a goal from Ferran Torres, tens of thousands of Argentines took to the streets in different parts of the country to express their support and gratitude to the team for having reached the final and being on the verge of the two-time championship.
