Known for performances such as the Mad Hatter, Jack Sparrow and Young Scissorhands, Johnny Depp presents his latest film role as Ebenezer Scrooge. The actor, who will play the character created by Charles Dickens, made a surprise appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con to announce the film.
Beyond the already known work about this character, Paramount Pictures highlights that this new production will present the story that the public does not know about Ebenezer Scrooge.
This character, which marks Depp’s return to Hollywood with an older adult characterization, led the actor to make a surprise presentation during the San Diego Comic-Con as part of the promotion of the film, which will hit theaters next November.
It was in the Hall H auditorium where Depp returned, eight years after his last appearance, to present Ebenezer: The Ghosts of Christmasa reinterpretation of the character of Ebenezer Scrooge directed by Ti West.
The actor gave a unique moment to those in attendance. Before the official presentation, Depp appeared dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge before the public that toured Comic-Con, which excited those present. Getting into character, he interacted with the attendees, who celebrated the unexpected appearance.
Beyond telling the story of the bitter, cantankerous man who hates Christmas, this new adaptation is outlined with a darker and more cinematic optics, which could become a new success for Depp and attract the attention of the public, since it marks his return to Hollywood after having been removed from several projects due to the litigation with Amber Heard.
Although he participated in independent productions, Ebenezer becomes the film that brings him back to Hollywood. The production released the first preview of the film, whose premiere is scheduled for November 13, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Although the preview shows the essence of Dickens’ story, it has not yet been revealed whether there will be drastic changes to the plot. The production is directed by Ti West; Nathaniel Halpern wrote the script and Emma Watts is producing.
