The Paiz Foundation confirmed this Monday, July 27, that it will celebrate the 46th edition of the Paiz Marimba Festival, an event that it qualifies as a tribute to the instrument that transforms tradition into a show for all audiences.
“There are traditions that transcend because they know how to evolve. For 46 years, the Marimba Paiz Festival has brought together thousands of Guatemalans around the instrument that best represents our identity. Today, in addition to its loyal audience, the festival is experiencing a new stage: it has established itself as a show that also conquers new generations,” said Lucy Bonilla, producer of the festival.
According to the Foundation, this year five of the country’s most emblematic marimbas will participate, in a combination with recognized national artists from different musical genres.
“This fusion will allow for a contemporary, diverse and exciting artistic proposal, which will keep the essence of the marimba alive while bringing it closer to new audiences,” Bonilla added.

A legacy that transcends
With the motto The legacy livesthe Paiz Foundation will celebrate the 46th edition of the Paiz Marimba Festival and, according to Sonia Hurtarte, executive director of the Paiz Foundation, this year it will have specially conceived arrangements and a repertoire that will fuse tradition with new musical proposals.
“This festival is very important because it precedes the celebration of the 50 years of the Foundation. In addition, we celebrate our sonic legacy with this beautiful instrument that greatly represents the ancestry of our culture, which is a living culture. So, we are excited to be able to continue that legacy and be able to leave it to young people,” Hurtarte added.
According to the production and the Paiz Foundation, the Paiz Marimba Festival has established itself as one of the longest-running cultural events in the country, due to its growth and the conservation of its essence.
“The artistic proposal of the Marimba Paiz Festival demonstrates that the marimba does not only belong to history, but that it continues to reinvent itself, dialogue with different musical genres and excite people of all ages,” Bonilla explained during a conference.
The Grace Award for Music
In 2025, the Paiz Foundation awarded the Grace Award for Music for the first time, a recognition of the cultural contribution of a national musician or musician who, through their talent and dedication, has contributed significantly to the development and dissemination of music.
In that edition, the winner was Adriana González, the lyrical soprano who has stood out in the world of opera and who makes Guatemala shine with each of her performances.
“What we are looking for with this award is to recognize the trajectory of an artist who has managed to cross borders, who has important achievements internationally and represents Guatemala. So, we look for, through the jury, proposals in which we analyze those trajectories and what the artists have done, so that they are an example for the new generations that it is possible to be successful in Guatemala. So We will soon reveal the award-winning artist for this year“Hurtarte explained
The invitation to the 46th Marimba Paiz Festival
According to the Paiz Foundation, with the 46th edition of the Marimba Festival it reaffirms its commitment to the preservation and projection of Guatemalan cultural heritage, and continues to create spaces where tradition, artistic excellence and innovation meet to strengthen national identity and bring culture closer to more people.
“This is a show that we have been working on for a year, with planning and a spectacular production that will include new artists and also very well-known artists. In addition, we will see the marimba interact with different instruments, different genres and different artists,” Hurtarte said.
