This weekend the first advances of Carriethe new thriller series based on the novel by Stephen King that will soon be available on Prime Video.
The miniseries will have eight episodes that will tell the story of a misfit teenager who, after the sudden death of her father, enters public school for the first time and must face a bullying scandal, the pressure of social networks and the awakening of telekinetic powers.
The first trailer was presented at the Comic-Con in San Diego, California, last Saturday, July 25, where it shows scenes from the school gym, the moment Carrie White receives the crown at the prom and her subsequent scream in the middle of a fire.
The series was created, produced and directed by Mike Flanagan, who assured that his version is totally different from previous adaptations.
“Carrie was written half a century ago. Carrie was spectacularly adapted by Brian De Palma. It is untouchable. There is no reason to try to follow those steps. The world, however, has changed a lot,” said the filmmaker.
He added that the production will delve into the cruelty of today’s world and how the internet encourages, rewards, celebrates and amplifies it. “This is terrible for adults, and for teenagers even more so.”
The protagonist will be played by Summer H. Howell, who was chosen from more than a thousand applicants to play Carrie White.
“It feels like my Carrie came into this world very open and excited. She wants to make friends, go to school and meet people. She has never experienced anyone other than her mom and dad,” the actress said in statements to deadline.
The actress has also participated in horror productions such as Curse of Chucky, Cult of Chucky and Channel Zero.
The cast includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle, Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy and Joel Oulette as Tommy.
This will be the first television adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, published in 1974. In 1976 it was made into a film in an Oscar-nominated film.
