The four representatives of Guatemala begin this week their participation in the 2026 Central American Cup, a tournament in which they seek one of the six tickets to the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.

The fourth edition of the contest will bring together 20 clubs from Central America, distributed into four groups of five teams.

The first to go into action is Deportivo Mixco, which visits Olimpia de Honduras this Tuesday, July 28, at the Chelato Uclés stadium, in Tegucigalpa, at 8:00 p.m.. The match marks the international debut of the chicharronero team in the competition.

Activity continues on Wednesday with two games scheduled for 8:00 p.m.. Antigua GFC faces Alianza FC as a visitor of El Salvador in the Cuscatlán stadium, while Xelajú MC visits the Alajuelense Sports League at the Alejandro Morera Soto stadium, in Costa Rica.

The first day for the Guatemalan clubs concludes on Thursday, when Municipal receives Cartaginés from Costa Rica at the Manuel Felipe Carrera stadium, El Trébol, at 9:00 p.m.in the only match of the date in which a national representative will act as a local.

The Central American Cup maintains the format of four groups of five teams. Each club plays four games in the group stage—two at home and two away—and the top two in each sector advance to the quarterfinals. The four semi-finalists and the two winners of the play-in They will qualify for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.

The four national representatives arrive with different realities. Deportivo Mixco debuts in the Central American Cup, while Antigua GFC, Xelajú MC and Municipal are competing in their third participation in the tournament. Antigua seeks to repeat the semifinals reached in 2024, Xelajú tries to fight again for the title after being runner-up in 2025 and Municipal tries to overcome the group stage for the first time.

The four clubs seek to begin a group stage with positive results in which only the first two from each sector will advance to the quarterfinals and keep alive their chances of qualifying for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.
