Users reported that this Wednesday, July 29, the fare for urban buses in the capital increased to Q7. The previous rate was Q5.
One of the users indicated that he now paid more to travel by Transurbano from zone 18 to the capital.
In that sense, Free press consulted Saúl Umaña, president of the Chamber of Urban and Interurban Transporters of Guatemala (Catug), who confirmed that the rate increased to Q7 due to the high price of fuel.
According to Umaña, the increase also applies to Mixco’s urban buses.
Regarding the fuel subsidy proposal presented by the Executive, the Catug leader said that they consider that, by itself, it will not be enough to resolve the financial crisis facing urban transportation.
“In any case there has to be an increase in the rate,” he added.
On July 24, President Bernardo Arévalo announced, in a press conference, that he presented to the Congress of the Republic a bill to grant a temporary subsidy of Q12 per gallon of diesel and Q3 per gallon of regular gasoline, program for which the Executive plans to allocate Q3,480 million, in order to mitigate the impact of the increase in fuel prices.
