They capture a suspect in Izabal for the death of three women found in a ravine in Petén

The National Civil Police (PNC) reported that this Monday, July 27, investigators from the Department of Investigation against Femicide captured a man involved in the case of a triple femicide that occurred in April 2019 in a sector of El Chal, Petén.

According to the PNC, the investigations took the agents to Puerto Barrios, Izabal, where they captured Carlos “N”, 38, accused of femicide.

He added that the suspect was detained on a public street, on 15th Avenue and 14th Street, next to a hospital, in Puerto Barrios.

According to the PNC’s Anti-Femicide Investigation Department, on April 17, 2019, three women were kidnapped in El Chal. The victims were between 19 and 23 years old.

He added that, to follow up on the case, a team of investigators who were experts in femicides and the dismantling of criminal organizations was appointed, which, in coordination with the Public Ministry, carried out investigation proceedings without interruption.

According to the PNC, after seven days of searching after the kidnapping, the bodies of the victims were located in a state of putrefaction in a ravine between the municipalities of El Chal and Sayaxché, Petén.

“By applying scientific investigations and special investigation methods, the identification of those responsible was achieved until one was captured and four raids were carried out on this day,” the PNC noted.
