This Saturday, March 1, residents of the city of Quetzaltenango took to the streets to demand the mayor to put a high at the high cost of electricity and showed their discontent for the “high diets” of the mayor and councilors.
“No more corruption”, “not to the increase in electric light”, “you cannot ignore so many people who ask for a change”, are some of legends that were read in the posters that the protesters carried.
The march ended in front of the building of the Municipality of Quetzaltenango and there several neighbors raised their voice to indicate that the payment of the electric power service has become unsustainable for the population, mainly for few resources.
The call was made for Mayor Juan Fernando López Fuentes to meet citizen demand. The neighbors also indicate that the streets are deteriorated, that the cleaning train is inefficient in the city, and that these needs must be covered with the financial resources provided by the population, which does not happen.
