On Friday night it was marked by a historic decision in Guatemalan football. The Sports Arbitration Court (TAN) decided to return the three points to Marquense, corresponding to the match of day 1 of the Clausura 2025 Tournament, after a complaint for the alleged undue alignment of the Ramiro Rocca player by Xinabajul. With this resolution, the lions are saved from the descent and condemn Xinabajul to play next season in the First Division.
The dispute crawled throughout the tournament, with resources presented, appeals and reviews. Finally, the ruling favored Marquense, returning three key points that completely altered the accumulated table of the championship. The party in question, played at the beginning of the Clausura, was challenged by an alleged irregularity in the registration of Rocca, who would have played without complying with the corresponding administrative requirements.
With the restitution of the points, Marquense amounts to 39 to 42 units in the accumulated table, while, Xinabajul for the loss of the points falls to 39 points, which leaves those of Huehuetenango as the team that loses the category.
Before resolution, Xinabajul was in the ninth place of the accumulated with 42 points, last marquense with 39 and Achuapa tenth with 40. Now, the new order leaves Marquense in ninth place, Achuapa in Tenth and Xinabajul in the last position, thus sealing its descent to the Ascent League.
The decision generated a strong stir in social networks and among the fans, especially in Huehuetenango, where the Xinabajul club had celebrated permanence weeks. Now, the panorama changes radically, and Huehuetecs must rethink their future from the First Division.
For his part, Marquense breathes with relief. After a season full of ups and downs and marked by the controversy, he manages to stay in the elite of national football. This permanence, however, does not erase the need for a deep internal evaluation to avoid future administrative and sports trips.
The resolution of the Tan is generating controversy, months after the party occurred, an administrative decision ends up defining the fate of two clubs and generating an institutional earthquake.
Now, both Marquense and Xinabajul must reorganize for the next season. One with the responsibility of improving in the major league and another with the challenge of returning as soon as possible to the maximum national football circuit.
