Deputy Samuel Pérez has confirmed that he and a group of deputies of the Seed movement They will build a new political group with which they will seek to re -elect in the next general elections of 2027.
This has caused a division in the Semilla Movement, since on the one hand there is the group of those who are related to President Bernardo Arévalo and who is led by Abelardo Pinto, head of the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) and Jonathan Menkos, Minister of Finance.
This Tuesday, May 20, President Arévalo participated in a press conference at the National Palace, where he was questioned by this seed issue.
One of the questions was: why are you mediating to solve the situation of the fractionation between the bench taking into account that your mandate is apolitical and why is it being used to measure?
Arévalo said that what is happening is that the party members analyze the way they organize to participate in the next elections and “within that the different electoral options that they will be considering are passed.”
He affirmed that Mides is not involved and according to him there is a misinformation campaign.
He added that Mides will not be used for partisan purposes.
“I am not mediating among the different sectors, but I have met with groups that come to consult me about the current situation and what I have done is to indicate that whatever the solution that is found, what corresponds is in attention and respect to that people of Guatemala that confided the vote in the Semilla movement, in its electoral candidates or the Executive, to do so in the sense of cooperation, coordination and unit,” the official added.
He said: “It is not my task to be involved in the party issue, my task is to govern for everyone, but I have made this call to unity and I continue dedicating myself to my executive tasks.”
They also asked him that the fact that seed is proposing a new political party can be interpreted as a defeat for the alleged criminalization that the same party has indicated by the Public Ministry.
Arévalo replied: “The prosecutor is going to leave, I have already told you, it is against a clock, at best will be released on May 16, 2026, when I agree with what will legally appoint a prosecutor to replace it.”

He added: “From that point of view where the failure is, this government will appoint the substitute or substitute for the current prosecutor.”
According to Arévalo, the research entity tried not to take possession and other actions to cause instability and uncertainty.
“It is annoying to have a Public Ministry that is obsessed with through lies and disinformations generate instability, but the government does not stop working,” according to the president.
Arévalo said that since they failed to prevent the seed binomial from taking possession, they have done “illegal”, “spurious” actions and with mechanisms of denial of justice have prevented the Semilla party from continuing like any other party and have prevented the organization from using its full rights in Congress.
