Like every afternoon, Sofía Panaza, 6, next to her sister, played on the main street of the Brisas del Río neighborhood, Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa, Escuintla. On Wednesday, May 21, they were in the company of their aunt, Vilma Araceli Suguyuc, 19. It was at 4:00 pm when two men aboard a motorcycle approached and began shooting at Vilma Araceli, who received two bullet impacts. In the attack, Sofia fled running, but was reached by three shots.

As mentioned in the place, after the detonations many sought to protect themselves. When the aggressors escaped, the residents went out to help the victims. Vilma Araceli was transferred in a private car to a health center and, after being stabilized, was taken to the Escuintla hospital.

Meanwhile, Sofia, whose wounds were more serious, was transferred by the volunteer firefighters to the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) of the town, but died at the entrance.

Sofia’s family commented that she was studying in Snakes and described her as a cheerful girl, full of life.

They ask the authorities to find those responsible for the armed attack, whose causes are still unknown.
