Members of the Serbian opposition, related to the anti -corruption demonstrations that have shaken the country for months, disturbed the parliamentary session on Tuesday, March 4 with flares and smoke grenades.

Shortly after the agenda was adopted, opposition deputies lit colored flares and threw pink and black smoke grenades, according to images broadcast live by Parliament.

According to the president of the Assembly, Ana Brnabic, and the Interior Minister, Ivica Dacic, tear gas were also fired.

A deputy was hospitalized in intensive care for having suffered a stroke – vascular cerebral disease that occurs suddenly – said Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar.

Serbia has been shaken by anti -corruption demonstrations, led by students, after the collapse of a marquee of the Novi Sad train station, in the north of the country, on November 1. The tragedy left 15 dead.

The collapse took place months after the station had been renewed and revived a latent anger for a long time among part of the Serbian population. Since then, protesters have regularly protested against corruption and the alleged lack of control in government works projects.

The protest movement caused the resignation of several senior officials, including Prime Minister, Milos Vucevic, at the end of January and redoubled the pressure on President Aleksandar Vucic.

Hours after the first incidents, an opposition deputy activated a fire extinguisher against other deputies.

Some parliamentarians wave Serbian flags and banners that prayed: “their hands are bloody” and “respond to students’ demands!”

At night, on television, President Vucic denounced “acts of hooliganism” and referred to “a difficult day for Serbia.”

To try to appease the protests, the Government published many documents on the renewal of the station and the president pardoned detainees.

Prosecutors have accused about fifteen people in the case of station reform works.
