After the armed confrontation between alleged drug traffickers and special forces of Mexico on the table, democracy, Huehuetenango, a federal grand jury revealed on Monday, June 16, on May 31, 2019, charged drug trafficking charges to 13 Guatemalans, including Baldemar Calderón Carrillo, alias “Don Balde” or “Uncle Balde”, who is among the victims of the shooting Border with Mexico.
The accusation also appears the son of “Don Balde”, Walfre Donaldo Calderón Calderón, aka “The Lieutenant Jr.”.
According to a document published by the US Department of Justice, on June 13, federal agents in San Diego, California, received information about “Don Balde”, the main accused, had died during a shooting with the Mexican authorities on June 8, 2025.
The report adds that US agents continue to obtain information confirming the details of the death of “Don Balde”.
He adds that the incident video was published in several media and social networks, and shows Mexican order forces in a shooting with alleged members of a drug trafficker organization.
The Department of Justice describes that, in January 2023, one of the children of “Don Balde”, Édgar Yovani Calderón Calderón, aka “Panón”, who is part of the same accusation, was arrested in Paris, France.
He adds that “Panón” was extradited to the US. From France in March 2024 and declared himself guilty in February 2025 of the conspiracy positions for the international distribution of cocaine.
As part of his guilt, Calderón Calderón admitted that, from at least 2017 to May 31, 2019, he conspired with others to distribute cocaine in Guatemala and other places, knowing and having reasonable cause to believe that the drug would be illegally imported to the United States.
In addition, “Panón” admitted having participated in the distribution of large amounts of cocaine in Guatemala for a drug trafficker organization based in the bedside, Huehuetenango.
From Huehuetenango, cocaine was transported to accomplices that operated near the border between Guatemala and Mexico, then to Mexico and, finally, was smuggled to the United States. As part of its guilt agreement, Calderón Calderón admitted that the conspiracy involved at least 550 kilograms of cocaine. On May 30, 2025, he was sentenced to 87 months in prison.
The rest of the defendants are a fugitive.
