During the first four months of 2025 there was a significant increase in the number of deaths for collective transport accidents, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Ombudsman’s Office of the Use of Public Transportation of the Prosecutor’s Office of Human Rights.
Between January and April 2025, 78 deaths were reported in accidents of this type, a 56% rise compared to the same period of 2024, when 50 were counted. The most serious case was that of the injured bus on La Paz Calzada, which left 54 deaths. Although the number of vehicles involved remained in 171, the injured fell from 236 to 186, which suggests a greater severity in the claims. Speeding is among the main causes.
Three women die in accident on the inter -American route
A serious traffic accident occurred on Tuesday, June 17 at kilometer 92 of the Inter -American Route, where a Sinaloa Transport bus overturned and hit a trailer. The bus was heading from the West to the capital and, losing control, was obstructing the opposite lanes.
As a result, three women died, including a child under 10. Another 10 people were injured, five of them in a delicate state; Two were reported as criticism at the Tecpán Guatemala hospital.
