In recent weeks, the Historic Center of the City of Guatemala has been the scene of assaults, a situation that worries those who travel their streets, especially those surrounding the Congress of the Republic.
Video surveillance cameras have captured assaults on customers and businesses in zone 1 of the capital.
One of the cases was the one registered against a 15 -year -old teenager, who was attacked 10 meters from one of the entrances used by the deputies.
“It is really worrying what we are living around the Congress, the same in the 7th Avenue, 6th Street, 11 and 10 avenue, it really is very strong, they have assaulted many colleagues, they are assaulting the places where we go out to have lunch,” said one of the victims of assault.
“Every day there are two, three or four assaults and they take away our belongings, they hit us and put the gun in the head, I would like to ask the authorities what are they doing to really protect the Guatemalans?” Said another of the victims.
While a man denounced how they assaulted him when trying to enter a veterinarian who is next to one of the accesses to Congress. According to him, no agent of the National Civil Police (PNC) who was in the sector intervened.
“I had been walking down (9 street and 8 avenue in zone 1, next to Congress), I stopped in the veterinarian because I was going to buy an antipulgas pipette for my dog, when suddenly a motorcycle was parked like this on the street, it got off – the subject – and approached the aquarium and touched the fishbowl, then told me how beautiful the fish goes,” he said.

He continued: “I turned aside for him to pass, at the time I gave him on his back He put the gun on my head, And he told me to give him a phone, I gave him the phone, he – the offender – was with a companion on a blue motorcycle and went up and fled, which I came to see that the two had black helmets and chumpas so that the weapons do not look at. ”
Most of the businesses in the sector have video surveillance cameras, these have documented the assaults that their customers have suffered and have shown a way to operate criminals.
Another criminal acts was last February 14 against a food business, on that occasion in broad daylight, diners and personal were stripped of their belongings by armed subjects.
The business is a few meters from the Congress building that is usually surrounded by PNC agents.
According to videos, in three minutes, criminals committed the robbery against the victims.
A motorcycle subject arrived at the place and with the helmet on, he parked in front of the business, then he took his cell phone and 12 seconds later another subject appeared with a cap, mask and apparently spoke on the phone, even, he passed in front of the trade, he stopped for a few seconds like analyzing who Esteban inside.
Then the motorist kept the cell phone and 10 seconds later the accomplice reappears, this time he stays longer in front of the business, while the other parks the motorcycle and walks to reach it.
A minute and a half later, you can see three people trying to withdraw from the premises, at the same time the two men return, one of them walks meters ahead of the other.
A client stopped outside awaits his companions and at that time, both criminals took their weapons and the force entered the premises again, where their belongings were who wanted.
In food businesses around the Congress, five assaults are counted in recent weeks; Police Station 11 only has a registration of one.
Edwin Monroy, spokesman of the PNC, indicated that “a complaint has been received at the 11 of two individuals who are assaulting aboard a black motorcycle and they dressed in black, but remember that they can be changed.”

Monroy added that derived from this, the head of that police station has ordered motorized agents to do identification operations, especially people driving on motorcycles, in addition to making a profile to determine if the people who are being identified have some antecedent or have some arrest warrant, those are measures taken immediately.
He said that they also coordinate patrols with the unity of the historic center to make tours and have the approach with merchants to denounce.
