The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) reported that the early Thursday, July 3, received the contamination report in several communities in Villa Nueva, where neighbors complain about an oil smell.
After the alert, an inter -institutional team made a tour in the area and in the basin of the Platanitos rivers and Villalobos.
During the recognition, it was detected that the Platanitos River presents a fatty substance, of which a sample was taken and coordinated with the authority for sustainable management of the Amatitlán Lake Basin.
According to Conred, this Thursday the municipality’s risk unit will carry out a new monitoring to determine if any factory poured a chemical in the area.
To the resident population, Conred recommended taking the corresponding caution measures and using a mask.
Internet users have indicated that the contamination of the river is constant due to the discharge of chemicals.
