The Catholic Church of Mexico urged this Sunday not to speculate on the health of Pope Francis or anticipate the facts, after his state worsened on Saturday due to a respiratory crisis that required oxygen and blood transfusions.

Through its editorial in the Weekly from faiththe Mexican Church asked the faithful to focus on prayer and avoid the dissemination of rumors.

“As faithful believers, we know that our most powerful weapon is prayer. In delicate moments, we should focus on it and not delve into speculation, rumors or get ahead of the facts”said the publication.

The message came after Vatican sources reported that the Pope, 88, spent Saturday night at rest, although on Sunday morning he still needed oxygen and presented more pain than in previous days.
